The Batman: Part 2 has suffered yet another delay, leaving Robert Pattinson’s long-awaited return as the Dark Knight now set to launch in 2028.
Having previously been due to arrive in theaters in October 2027, The Batman: Part 2 will now touch down on February 18, 2028. This latest change follows a string of previous delays to Matt Reeves’ Batman sequel, which had originally been set to arrive back in 2025.
According to Deadline, The Batman: Part 2’s latest holdup can be blamed on a cascade of changing release dates over at Warner Bros., as the company’s impending sale to Paramount takes longer than first anticipated. Paramount’s $110.9 billion acquisition of the company had been set to be finalized this fall, though is still to be approved by regulators in a string of countries including the UK and Japan, as well as the European Union.
Today does at least bring a snippet of new footage from director Matt Reeves: a 35-second clip dubbed as a camera test, showing Battinson slowly turning to the camera while wearing the iconic cowl.

Batman’s old October 2027 date is now being filled by The Great Beyond, Warner Bros.’ new sci-fi movie from J.J. Abrams that stars Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega. Meanwhile, its new February 2028 spot means it’ll arrive during the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend, which previously hosted Marvel tentpoles such as Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, and Captain America: Brave New World. (Well… at least Black Panther was good.)
Marvel currently has nothing announced for a similar release window, with its current run of releases only dated up to December 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.
While today’s date change will mean Reeves has longer to work on The Batman: Part 2 in post-production, it is yet another holdup to a project that many DC fans feel is already arriving too long after Pattinson’s Dark Knight debut. By the time it launches in 2028, almost six years will have passed since The Batman launched back in March 2022.
Since that time, Reeves’ sequel has been postponed multiple times, firstly due to Hollywood strikes, and then later due to the length of time Reeves took to meticulously complete its script. The fact that Pattinson’s Batman is still waiting in the wings has proven problematic to James Gunn’s DCU, too, which is yet to introduce its own incarnation of Batman — though plans to so are already in motion, with work on a script for The Brave and the Bold already underway.
The Batman: Part 2 filming officially got underway last month, with Pattinson joined once again by Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Sebastian Stan is rumored to be playing Harvey Dent, with his fellow MCU alum Scarlett Johansson rumored to be playing Gilda Dent, while Charles Dance is expected to be playing Christopher Dent. Colin Farrell is also back, though his Penguin character will only show up for two scenes.
