Pokémon TCG Pocket has announced yet another new expansion. Paradox Drive (B3a) will be released in the trading card app on May 27 at 6pm PT. The new expansion is based on Gen 9, introducing ‘Paradox Pokémon’ like Koraidon ex and Miraidon ex as well as new Ancient and Future subcategories.
Paradox Pokémon were first introduced in Scarlet and Violet, where, depending on which you version you played, either Ancient or Future Pokémon were brought to the present by a professor and their time machine. These Paradox Pokémon are variations on Pokémon from previous generations.

The announcement offers a sneak peek at what cards and mechanics we’ll specifically be getting in the digital expansion. The games’ original box art Legendary Pokémon Miraidon ex and Koraidon ex lead the pack as Ancient and Future Pokémon, respectively. Other new cards include Flutter Mane ex, Iron Bundle ex, and a full art edition of Raging Bolt.
The Ancient and Future subcategories will synergize with new trainer cards that will also be familiar to fans of the ninth generation games. Professor Turo will allow you to shuffle a Future Pokémon you have in play into your deck, while Professor Sada offers the particularly powerful ability to attach three different energy from your discard pile to your Ancient Pokémon in any way you like.
Paradox Pokémon and their accompanying ‘Ancient’ and ‘Future’ subcategories have previously been introduced in the standard trading card game through the Paradox Rift set. These Pokémon are not part of any evolution lines, and, in the trading card context, have particularly powerful abilities for Basic Pokemon balanced out by higher energy costs and less HP. Based on the previews we’ve seen so far, this general ethos also seems to apply to the digital version of the cards.
The new expansion will be accompanied by the spread of usual new events, including new solo battles to help you rack up those timers. A Paradox Drive emblem event will kick off in late May followed by another community week in mid-June. New covers and accessories featuring Miraidon will also become available on May 31.
