RWE installs private cloud AI for weather data to support renewable energy

German energy company RWE has partnered with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to implement private cloud AI for weather data.

Researchers at RWE’s Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory will utilise HPE Private Cloud AI to evaluate and fine tune weather models that can assist with decision-making around renewable energy.

The move comes as the company aims to decarbonise its business, with the company using AI to reach its goal of net zero by 2040. Weather modelling is a top priority for RWE, as it is a significant driver of energy supply and demand for both consumption and production.

The technology, which was developed with NVIDIA, can handle large volumes of data and extract necessary information.

RWE said its researchers can use the technology to deploy cloud AI infrastructure within their own polices, allowing them to experiment with and scale AI projects and models quickly across different regions.
