Scarlett Johansson could be making the jump to DC, as the former Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) star is reportedly in talks to join The Batman Part 2.
News about the superhero switch-up, which originated from Nexus Point News and was later corroborated by Deadline, suggests the Jurassic World and Black Widow veteran is currently circling a mystery role for the Batman sequel. Discussions remain underway, but Deadline’s sources say talks between DC, director Matt Reeves, and Johansson have reached final negotiations.
Despite being in the works in some form since The Batman swooped into theaters 2022, little is known about how The Batman Part 2 will follow the original film and its The Penguin spinoff show. Regardless, it shouldn’t take long for fans to start guessing at who Johansson could show up to star as alongside Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. Though characters like Poison Ivy, Batgirl, Talia al Ghul, or even Andrea Beaumont may be the first to come to mind, Reeves and the rest of the DC team have given fans too few details to form any solid theories, for now.
Production on The Batman Part 2 is expected to kick off spring 2026, with its long-delayed release date currently penciled in for October 1, 2027. It’ll be a tight schedule for Johansson, who recently joined Mike Flanagan’s new Exorcist movie. She’s expected to film that project first before moving to the DC universe, according to THR.
While many casting details have remained a mystery thus far, Variety sources say Zoe Kravitz, who co-starred with Pattinson as Selina Kyle (a.k.a. Catwoman) in the original film, is not expected to make her return to Gotham for the sequel. The Batman last saw her character leaving Gotham following events that saw Bruce Wayne tangled up in life-or-death games with Paul Dano’s The Riddler.
