The upcoming Scrubs revival will see the original series’ core trio of characters reunite, as Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke have signed up to join lead actor Zach Braff for new episodes.

With Faison and Chalke’s casting now confirmed, ABC has also now officially greenlit the revival, which is due to air in either late 2025 or early 2026.

Braff, Faison and Chalke starred as series regulars JD, Turk and Elliot throughout Scrubs’ first eight seasons, from 2001 to 2009. The show then attempted to continue on into a ninth season, albeit without the majority of its original cast, and was cancelled soon after.

Throughout the show, JD and Turk remained best friends — and the actors behind the characters have stayed pals in the years since, hosting a Scrubs podcast together. Now, the pair’s friendship looks to be a key component in the revival, as mentioned in this official ABC blurb:

“JD & Turk scrub in together for the first time in a long time — medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.”

Intriguingly there’s no mention of Chalke’s character Elliot there, last seen married to JD and raising their child. But what we do have is confirmation that the series is remaining at the show’s original setting of Sacred Heart hospital — something which surely leaves the door open to other returning characters as well.

“Scrubs means so very much to me,” said original series creator Bill Lawrence, who will now serve as an executive producer on the show’s new episodes. “So excited for the chance to get the band back together.”

Braff, meanwhile, posted an Instagram story singing the Scrubs theme tune — “I’m no Superman” — replacing the title with the words “I need Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison”. How’s that for life support!
