Michael B. Jordan is currently working on more than one anime project, and even joked that he might leave Hollywood behind to focus on anime full-time.
It’s no secret that Michael B. Jordan is a huge anime fan. He’s been open about his love for iconic series like Dragon Ball, Hunter x Hunter, and Naruto, as well as famous films like Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke. In fact, the last fight in Creed 3 was inspired by anime-style brawls, with the actor saying he took direct influence from boxing series Hajime no Ippo and Megalo Box. (Side note: If you haven’t watched Ippo, do yourself a favor and pull it up on Netflix right now.)
Now that Sinners has had some time to breathe, Jordan is diving into the anime world to make his own creations in the space, and even joked that he might ditch the world of traditional filmmaking to pursue his passion full time.
Jordan chatted about the subject in a cover interview for the October 2026 issue of Vogue, where the outlet revealed that he has “some [anime] projects in early stages of development.”
“I might just quit it all and make anime the rest of my life,” he told Vogue, with reporter Kelefa Sanneh remarking that he was “only half-joking.”
IGN got the chance to chat with Jordan back in February 2023, where he gushed about the anime that shaped Creed 3’s visual flair and combat sequences.
“Without nerding out too much… You’ve seen so many fights throughout the Rocky and Creed franchise, and I really wanted to put my spin on it, you know? How to make these fights different, and you know, from Hajime no Ippo, to Megalo Box, to Naruto, to My Hero Academia, all of those different anime that I watched growing up, there’s an inherent spirit to them in how they fight…” he told us at IGN Fan Fest.
“And their bonds and relationships and all that good stuff. But it’s very similar to the brotherhood and bond that we have, and his relationship to his family as well. So I tried to key in on some of those key moments. And yeah, they’re in there. They’re in a lot of the fights. …I would say from the Dragon Ball Z universe, there’s a punch… [in] me and Damian’s fight, where there’s a Dragon Ball Z punch that’s in there.”
While it’s as-yet unclear what Jordan’s anime projects will be, fans can look forward to his performance alongside Austin Butler in Miami Vice ’85, a reboot of the iconic 80s TV series that’s set to release on August 6, 2027.
Jordan is also working on a Battlefield movie alongside Christopher McQuarrie, with the two stars reportedly shopping the adaptation around to different studios in hopes of bringing Electronic Arts’ popular military game series to the silver screen.
