Squid Game originally aired in September 2021 and quickly became one of Netflix’s biggest successes. It only took a few months before the streamer was ready to commit to plans for a second season but noted at the time that it would be a while before it made its way to subscribers. In the meantime, Netflix did its best to keep fans engaged by launching spinoff content, including a reality show called Squid Game: The Challenge.
Squid Game Season 2 plot details have mostly remained under wraps while the team behind the show presses on, but we do at least know that it will be bigger than Season 1. Some of its new and returning cast members have also been confirmed, with other teasers arriving to help with the wait in the meantime.
Squid Game Season 2 premieres December 26, 2024. It will be the show’s second of three seasons, with creator Hwang Dong-hyuk promising that the third is scheduled to wrap up the story sometime in 2025. While we wait to see how the journey will unfold this winter, you can read up on everything else announced as part of Netflix Geeked Week 2024, which includes reveals for The Witcher, Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2, Black Mirror Season 7, and Twilight of the Gods.
