Stellantis and Mistral AI have strengthened their partnership as the carmaker seeks to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) in several areas, from vehicle design to in-car experiences.

With the move, Stellantis will continue to leverage Mistal AI’s expertise in large language models (LLM) and AI-driven automation to integrate AI into many of its systems and applications.

It said that the move would help to improve data analysis, streamline development, and enhance customer interaction.

The two companies have been collaborating for more than a year on AI-based projects that involve vehicle engineering, fleet data analysis, internal sales and car production.

Their latest initiative involves a next-generation on-board assistant equipped and designed to provide real-time conversational support to drivers, enabling them to interact with their vehicles using natural language.

Customers will be able to ask questions about vehicle features, troubleshooting or warning indicators and receive immediate guidance through natural, conversational interaction.

The two companies are also exploring several other AI-based initiatives, including a specific Stellantis tool that simplifies the analysis of complex component databases. A chatbot powered by Mistral AI interacts with the company’s product data, helping engineers identify, compare and optimise component selections to maximise overall reuse and efficiency.

Other features include a “Club Stellantis” virtual assistant, a chatbot that assists Stellantis employees in France when purchasing company vehicles. The technology can handle questions in multiple languages, which will support the company’s plans to expand the service to other European countries.

Ned Curic, Stellantis chief engineering & technology officer said about the partnership: “Together, we are exploring AI’s potential across several domains to enhance our product development, customer experience and deliver real benefits.”

Arthur Mensch, Mistral AI chief executive officer and co-founder, emphasised the firm’s commitment to making GenAI more accessible in the automotive world: “Stellantis’ bold approach to technology, and its ability to integrate advanced AI into real-world driving experiences make it an ideal partner to showcase how Mistral AI’s versatile solutions can reinvent mobility and empower engineers in their work.”
