Summer 2024’s Most Anticipated New Anime

The Summer 2024 anime season is nearly here, and along with it, some huge next series that fans around the world are waiting for. Between titles like Oshi No Ko and Fairy Tail, it is easy for other anime to get overlooked. In truth, though, the Summer 2024 anime season is full of new, original anime series. Most of the anime that will start airing in July are new stories that come from manga or light novels, and are just the beginning of a new story to enjoy.

Because there are so many new anime premiering in the upcoming season, it can be overwhelming to decide what to watch. Here are some of the most anticipated ones out of all, determined by which series has the most followers already on MyAnimeList. All of these anime are new stories, not sequels or remakes, which means you can start to watch them this season without needing any prior knowledge. Get ready to jump right into one (or more) when they start in July.

Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian

In Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, two high school students have a cute, comedic relationship blooming between them. The first is half-Russian, half-Japanese girl Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou, who, while incredibly beautiful, is extremely intimidating to her classmates. While all the boys may be crushing on her, few are brave enough to approach her. On the other side is Masachika Kuze, a very average boy who spends his time playing video games – and somehow, is the only person that Alisa regularly talks to.

The problem is, Alisa only shows her affection for Masachika in Russian. Masachika pretends not to notice and not understand what she is saying, but his secret is that he actually does understand Russian, and thus understands her words. The two form a comical relationship between them as Alisa learns how to let loose, be herself, and genuinely show her affection to another person.

Suicide Squad Isekai

Since dropping its opening and closing videos this past week, Suicide Squad Isekai has gained a lot of attention on the internet. As the title suggests, it is based on the D.C. comicSuicide Squad, and the main characters are villains Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark, who have been gathered to complete a special mission. Where it differs from the source material is that they are sent into another world that is full of orcs, dragons, swords, and magic.

Summer 2024 Preview: Suicide Squad ISEKAI

The only hope for a magical parallel world is the supervillains from our world, which doesn’t bode well for either if we’re honest.

The unlikely group is immediately arrested upon entering this strange world and wreaking havoc, but the dark twist is that they have only 72 hours before the bombs implanted in their necks explode. Days with My Stepsister

Days with My Stepsister follows two high school students, Yuuta Asamura and Saki Ayase, who become step-siblings after their parents remarry. Both come from homes where they watched their parents’ relationships fall apart, learning that love between men and women can be fragile at best. This has made both Yuuta and Saki hesitant to get close to other people out of a fear of being hurt after what they saw in their childhoods.

Thus, when the two of them begin to live together, they decide not to get too close to one another. However, as they begin to inevitably spend time together, they slowly move from cold strangers to developing a new friendship. And as that friendship continues to grow stronger, will it someday turn into something even stronger, despite what they saw happen to their parents?

My Deer Friend Nokotan

Torako Koshi is trying to escape her past in My Deer Friend Nokotan. She used to be a troublemaker, but has since turned her life around and become the total opposite. Everyone in her school knows her only as a model student, and is completely oblivious to her past. Torako thinks that she has put it all behind her until a strange new student transfers to her school named Noko Shikanoko.

Interestingly, Noko has deer antlers. But more inconveniently for Torako, somehow Noko also has the ability to “sniff out” her past using her deer nose. So, while Torako spends her time trying to keep her past a secret, Noko keeps finding out about things one way or another, creating nothing but chaos in Torako’s carefully groomed life. Torako tries to keep her past a secret, while also trying to figure out exactly what Noko is – a deer, a human, or something else entirely?

No Longer Allowed In Another World

No Longer Allowed in Another World is a unique take on the isekai genre. While typically the main characters in isekai anime are nerds or otaku who often are happy to get another chance at a more interesting life in another world, the main character of No Longer Allowed in Another World would rather just find a quiet place to die. He is based on the real Japanese novelist Osamu Dazai, who died in real life in 1948 – and was pulled into this magical isekai in the anime.

Every New Isekai Anime Announced For 2024 (So Far)

2024 has plenty of isekai anime, and here are all the new shows announced for the year.

Being from a time before video games and anime, Dazai is less than thrilled about his new situation. Still looking for the perfect death, he risks his life time and time again in this magical world, hoping to find his ending somewhere along the line. However, he keeps getting out of every scrape just fine, and is forced to go on living. Will he be able to adapt to this strange new world, and maybe even find happiness in being alive at last?

Pseudo Harem

Eiji Kitahama and Rin Nanakura are in the drama club together in Psuedo Harem, and Eiji dreams of being more popular with the girls. His junior in the club, Rin wants to try to help him out with his dream. Using her amazing acting abilities, she is able to convince a group of girls to become Eiji’s loving harem. While their feelings may or may not actually be real towards Eiji, there is more to Rin’s help than meets the eye.

In reality, Rin is the one who has strong feelings for her senpai. However, Eiji only seems to have eyes for his new harem of loving women, and fails to see that his fellow club member has a more honest love for him than any of those girls. Whether or not Rin will ever be able to show her true feelings to Eiji is yet to be seen, if she does not do her job too well with recruiting all the other girls she now has to compete with.

2.5 Dimensional Seduction

2.5 Dimensional Seduction is a comedy anime about otaku culture and cosplay. The main character, Masamune Okumura, is more interested in 3D girls than real ones, and is completely obsessed with a manga character named Lilliel. As the president of the school’s manga club, it is no surprise that Okumura is more interested in fiction than reality, and no real girl has ever been able to compete with the likes of Lilliel.

That is, until a new girl joins the manga club. Ririsa Amano is a manga fan and a cosplayer, and the main character she likes to cosplay is none-other-than Lilliel. Needing a photographer for her cosplay shots, Ririsa recruits Okumura to help her out. For Okumura, suddenly the line between fiction and reality starts to blur, and he has feelings for a real, 3D girl for the first time instead of just a 2D one. But can he handle the pressure?

With isekai, comedy, and romance, the Summer 2024 anime season has a lot to offer otaku. While some of the big-name sequel anime are likely to take the main stage in July, some of these other new anime certainly have room to shine as well. You never know what the next big series is going to be, and it could well be one of these. Plus, they have the added bonus of being ready to watch without having to catch up on other seasons and hundreds of episodes. You can just jump right into any of these and enjoy them from the first episode.
