Suspect Charged After Ariana Grande Grabbed on Wicked: For Good Red Carpet

A man has been charged after popstar and actress Ariana Grande was grabbed by a member of the public who rushed onto the red carpet at the Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good.

Johnson Wen has been charged with public nuisance, according to BBC News. If he is found guilty, he faces a fine of up to $2,000 Singaporean dollars, which is the equivalent of $1,540 American dollars. The outlet also notes that local media in Singapore has reported that Wen will be pleading guilty.

In a now-viral video, a man can be seen jumping over a barricade as Grande and fellow Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum walk down the red carpet together through a sea of fans. The man then rushes at Grande and forcibly puts his arm around her while Erivo — and then members of the event’s security team — quickly pull the man away.

Wen, a 26 year old Australian man who goes by Pyjama Man on Instagram, is known via social media for his attempts to get close to celebrities at various events. Indeed, videos of him jumping up on stage at Katy Perry and The Weeknd concerts have surfaced online as a result of the Wicked incident.

The cast of Wicked: For Good are currently on a major world tour promoting the film, which includes press junkets and premieres like the one it’s alleged that Wen crashed. The next stop on said tour will be New York City on Monday, November 17, according to Variety, which will be the final stop for the musical movie.

Just a few days later on November 21, Wicked: For Good will arrive in theaters nationwide.
