Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) subsidiary HyperVault has secured 264 acres of land in Hyderabad to develop an AI data centre campus with up to one gigawatt of capacity.

HyperVault and its partners intend to invest up to 700 billion rupees ($7.4 bllion) in the project.

The facility will support frontier AI companies and hyperscalers with infrastructure designed for AI training, inference and high-density computing workloads. HyperVault said it will develop the campus in phases based on customer demand and technology requirements.

Once complete, the company expects the site to become one of India’s largest and most advanced AI infrastructure campuses. The development will incorporate green energy and water-neutral design principles, while supporting liquid-cooled, high-density GPU deployments.

HyperVault said the project will strengthen Telangana’s position as a hub for AI and digital infrastructure, while creating several thousand direct and indirect jobs.

The company also expects the development to drive growth across India’s wider AI infrastructure ecosystem, including power, cooling, networking, engineering, construction and operations.

“HyperVault advances TCS’ Infrastructure-to-Intelligence strategy by bringing together AI-ready infrastructure with our cloud, engineering, enterprise transformation and AI capabilities,” said K Krithivasan, chief executive and managing director at TCS. “Hyderabad offers the scale, talent and ecosystem to serve global customers.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to the honourable chief minister and the Government of Telangana for their steadfast support and progressive, investment-friendly policies.”

In July, K Kirthivasan told Reuters TCS is planning to assemble a team of forward-deployed engineers (FDEs) that could top 8,900 staff as it looks to accelerate customer AI adoption.

It is unclear whether TCS would form the team from new hires, reskilled staff, or a mix.

FDEs work within client organisations to deploy and maintain organisation-specific AI tools, as well as share best practices and sectoral knowledge with staff.
