The Blood of Dawnwalker Passes 1 Million Copies Sold in Just 2 Days

Single-player RPG and new IP The Blood of Dawnwalker has sold 1 million copies just two days after its launch, publisher Bandai Namco and developer Rebel Wolves have announced.

Official social media accounts for the first-time developer’s new game confirmed the news with a celebratory graphic today. The milestone was reached just 48 hours after The Blood of Dawnwalker launched for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S September 3.

“Thank you for playing, sharing, supporting, and being part of the community!” Rebel Wolves said in a message to fans.

An official summary for The Blood of Dawnwalker describes it as an “open-world dark fantasy action RPG set in 14th-century Europe.” In this first chapter, players take the role of Coen, a “human by day and vampire by night” who is fighting for his family in a narrative shaped by player choice. It also happens to have an in-game clock that sees Coen’s story take place through a 30-day period. It’s something some players love – and others don’t.

Reaching 1 million copies sold in such a short amount of time would be an impressive feat for any game, but there are a few reasons it’s especially noteworthy for the Rebel Wolves team. This is the studio’s first major release since it was founded in 2022. Led by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt director and Cyberpunk 2077 co-director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, The Blood of Dawnwalker is also a new IP. The Warsaw-based studio previously released a CGI teaser to tease how sequels could potentially expand on its dark fantasy formula in new and interesting ways.

“The CGI teaser shows where the dark fantasy saga is heading,” Bandai Namco said in a June press release. “Players can see Coen in completely different surroundings than the ones they are used to – a modern, 21st-century setting, offering a glimpse of where the overarching plot ultimately leads. As the developers revealed, the next installments of the Dawnwalker franchise will span centuries, continents, and cultures across the globe.”

Surreal. Thank you so much!🔥🙏 https://t.co/qhrBwsfOlv

Tomaszkiewicz said at the time that each installment in the Dawnwalker series is planned to be a standalone entry “with its own story, without narrative cliffhangers, unresolved plot threads, or time travel ideas.” With 1 million copies in players’ hands out of the gate, those sequels already feel more likely to materialize. Although the when and where for these planned follow-ups have yet to be revealed, narrative director Jakub Szamałek has at least told fans to keep an eye out for “breadcrumbs related to the overarching plot spanning the saga” in The Blood of Dawnwalker.

It helps that Rebel Wolves secured solid reviews upon the launch of its first game. IGN, for example, called it “amazing” in our 9/10 review. We said, “The Blood of Dawnwalker is an impressive, bloody cocktail of interesting ideas and well-written characters, making it one of this year’s best open-world RPGs.”

We’ll have to wait to see what updates Bandai Namco and Rebel Wolves have in store. In the meantime, you can read what Tomaszkiewicz had to tell us when it comes to the studio’s plans to establish even more new IP. For everything you need to know before starting the game yourself, click here.
