Netflix announced Tuesday that Season 2 of their live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series will premiere on June 25, 2026.
“In S2, after a bittersweet victory saving the Northern Water Tribe from the invading Fire Nation, Avatar Aang, Katara and Sokka regroup and set off on a mission to convince the elusive Earth King to aid in their battle against fearsome Fire Lord Ozai,” according to the official plot synopsis.
Netflix also released this behind-the-scenes video on the making of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Season 2, as well as two new photos of Dallas Liu as Zuko and Elizabeth Yu as Azula which can be seen in the slideshow below.
The behind-the-scenes footage showcases the cast, including new co-star Miyako as earthbender Toph Beifong, filming stunts and training, as well as new locations such as Ba Sing Se, the capital of the Earth Kingdom.
“It’s definitely a level up this season,” Katara actress Kiawentiio declares in the video. Co-star Yu adds, “All the bending styles are really elevated this season.”
“Now that we’re past Season 1, we’re into the real meat of the story,” a visibly excited Liu says. “And especially with the fight scenes that we have this season, it’s mind-blowing to see how everyone has grown.”
In his Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1 review, critic Joshua Yehl gave the season a score of 7/10, writing: “The show doesn’t live up to the original in every way possible, but it’s still a worthy adaptation that adds a textured richness to the lore. What’s most important is that it captures the spirit of the original while forging its own path.”
Christine Boylan (Poker Face, Once Upon a Time) serves as executive producer and writer of Season 2. Jabbar Raisani (Lost in Space, Stranger Things) is executive producer and director, alongside directors Anu Menon, Amit Gupta and Hiromi Kamata.
Dan Lin and Ryan Halprin serve as executive producers from Rideback. Additional executive producers include Brendan Ferguson and Albert Kim.
Avatar: The Last Airbender, Season 2’s cast includes Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Miyako, Elizabeth Yu, Momona Tamada and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, with Maria Zhang and Daniel Dae Kim.
The third and final season of Avatar: The Last Airbender wrapped production in late 2025 for an expected 2027 release.
