Amazon has released a fresh glimpse at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, as filming continues on the lavish TV series’ upcoming third season.
The short clip, shared on social media, shows Elendil (once again played by Peter McKenzie) training for battle. In costume, we then see the actor picking up the legendary blade Narsil, and readying himself while standing on a shoreline.
Elendil received Narsil in Rings of Power’s most recent episode, Shadow and Flame, the series’ second season finale which aired in October 2024. Still in Númenor, Elendil is given the sword by deposed Queen Míriel and told to leave and reclaim his lordship — something which he’s now off presumably doing.

Production on Rings of Power’s third season began in May, and is still continuing now some four months later. Amazon previously announced the series would jump forward in time for its next episodes, which will pick up the tale “at the height of the war of the elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring.”
This first sneak peek looks to be the start of several teases picking up the journeys of key Rings of Power characters, as fans wait for news on when the third season might premiere.
The show previously left its eleven characters united in resolve to take down Sauron, who now holds the nine rings for men. Elsewhere, Gandalf finally decides to call himself Gandalf, and Eldendil’s son Isildur finally sets off back to Númenor.
Of course, fans who have seen The Lord of the Rings will know much of what happens next. As seen in the movies’ opening prologue, Sauron is defeated by Isildur, who slices off the villain’s finger that bears the One Ring using Narsil. (The sword is shattered, though is reforged thousands of years later for Aragorn who wields the blade, renamed Andúril, in Return of the King.)
Elsewhere in Middle-earth, pre-production is ramping up on The Lord of the Rings prequel movie The Hunt for Gollum, with actor and director Andy Serkis now in New Zealand ahead of filming beginning. Chatty wizard Sir Ian McKellan recently confirmed the return of both Gandalf and Frodo in the upcoming film, though exactly how they will feature remains to be seen.
