The Singing Voices Behind HUNTR/X Know What They Want from KPop Demon Hunters 2

We’re all chomping at the bit for the KPop Demon Hunters sequel film, which, unfortunately for all of us, won’t be released until 2029. However, we can dream and speculate about what the follow-up will actually be about — and the singing voices behind the film’s central KPop girl group, HUNTR/X, are doing the same.

EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami have opened up about what they want to see in the next installment of the story. “More Korean traditional stuff — traditional history, music, food,” EJAE, who is the singing voice behind the film’s lead character Rumi, told Collider in a recent interview.

For Audrey Nuna, who provides Mira’s singing voice, it’s all about going international. “I want to see the girls in different cities. I want to see what they bring [globally], because this film has had such a global impact,” she told the outlet. “I think the movie and reality have been having a really crazy conversation with each other, and I’d love to see that continue.”

Rei Ami, who sings Zoey’s parts, made a couple great points about where the next film should take fans. “I would love to see the origin story of how the girls got together,” Ami explained during the interview. “If it’s not a prequel, then I want Gwi-Ma back. Bring him back. Who’s going to be the antagonist? I’m so curious for this next one.”

The origin story of HUNTR/X is only lightly touched on in KPop Demon Hunters, so it would be great to see filmmakers Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans explore their early days in a deeper way. It would also be pretty interesting to see Gwi-Ma, the film’s central antagonist, back for more somehow — and maybe his minions pop up in another country, as Nuna suggested.

KPop Demon Hunters, which is Netflix’s biggest movie ever with over 400 million views to date, is available to stream on the platform now, both in its original cut and a singalong version. If you somehow haven’t watched it yet, KPop Demon Hunters is a Sony Pictures Animation film following Korean pop band HUNTR/X, a trio who moonlight as demon hunters battling against an evil demon king intent on devouring humanity. In our 8/10 review, we called it “a stunning animated action musical with terrific fight sequences, catchy musical numbers, and an ample amount of harmony and heart.”
