Thimbleweed Park 2 Announced for PC, Mac, and Linux by Monkey Island Creator

Legendary adventure game designer Ron Gilbert has announced Thimbleweed Park 2, a sequel to his 2017 pixel-art point-and-click adventure game about two Mulder and Scully-like characters (not to mention a host of other playable heroes) solving a murder mystery, including hundreds of puzzles along the way. It’s in development for PC (on Steam and GoG), Mac, and Linux, and it’s due out in early 2028.

“I have good news and bad news,” Gilbert posted on his GrumpyGamer blog. “First the good news. The good news is that we just started production on Thimbleweed Park 2, due out in early 2028. We will self-publish with the help of a private investor. Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, Robert Megone, and others from the original team will be back!”

He then invited fans to wishlist the sequel on Steam before adding, “Now the bad news. There is no bad news, it’s all good news.”

IGN (and specifically me) gave Thimbleweed Park an 8.5 out of 10, praising its pixel art and smart puzzles. Since then, Gilbert returned to the Monkey Island series he created with 2022’s Return to Monkey Island, a completely unexpected project (in fact, it was soft-announced on April Fool’s Day that year before being formally revealed a few days later) that proved you can go home again, with Gilbert and his team delivering a near-perfect conclusion to Guybrush Threepwood’s story; I gave it a 9 out of 10 in IGN’s review.

Ryan McCaffrey is IGN’s executive editor of previews and host of both IGN’s weekly Xbox show, Podcast Unlocked, as well as our semi-retired interview show, IGN Unfiltered. He’s a North Jersey guy, so it’s “Taylor ham,” not “pork roll.” Debate it with him on Twitter at @DMC_Ryan.
