Can’t get enough of Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan’s new crime drama? Need another season of Helen Mirren being badass in something? Well thankfully, Paramount+ has officially renewed MobLand for Season 2.
According to the streamer, 26 million people have watched the series since its premiere on March 30 — which makes the decision to renew a total no brainer, especially with the A-List acting talent at the helm. Paramount+ claims MobLand is the second most-watched original series released on its platform to date.
Alongside Hardy, Brosnan, and Mirren, House of the Dragon’s Paddy Considine and Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt costar in the show, which follows Hardy’s Harry Da Souza, a fixer employed by Brosnan’s Conrad Harrigan and his London crime family. The series’ official synopsis ”showcases two generations of gangsters, their businesses, the relationships they weave and the man they call to fix their problems.”
“With over 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph driven by the creative brilliance of [producers] Guy [Ritchie], Jez [Butterworth], Ronan [Bennett] and David C. Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances by Tom, Pierce, and Helen,” Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, explained. “We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to #1 in the United Kingdom.”
The show holds a solid 75% on Rotten Tomatoes for Season 1 and is currently available to stream — but no word just yet on when it will return for Season 2.
In May, while promoting MobLand, Hardy said working on the likes of Venom, Mad Max: Fury Road, and The Dark Knight Rises over the years had taken a serious toll on his body and wellbeing as he approaches his 50s.
“I’ve had two knee surgeries now, my disc’s herniated in my back, I’ve got sciatica as well,” the 47-year-old Hardy revealed.
“And I have that… is it plantar fasciitis? Where did that come from? And why? Why?! And I pulled my tendon in my hip as well. It’s like, it’s all falling to bits now, and it’s not going to get better.”
