Following Walt Disney – A Magical Life at Disneyland, Walt Disney is getting another Audio-Animatronics figure at Disney World’s Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom.
The big news was revealed during Destination D23, and it was confirmed that Walt Disney will now introduce Carousel of Progress in a new scene that will precede four scenes of John, Sarah, Rover, and the rest of the family as we once again follow them throughout the decade and see the evolution of life in the United States.
This is such a big moment for so many reasons, including that, much like Disneyland’s Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Carousel of Progress was one of Walt’s greatest creations. It first debuted at the New York World’s Fair in 1964, moved to Magic Kingdom in 1975, and has since had more performances than any other stage show in the history of American theater.
“We are grateful to The Walt Disney Company and Walt Disney Imagineering for their continued collaboration and ongoing partnership with The Walt Disney Family Museum. The introduction of a new Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney in ‘Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress’ marks an exciting milestone in our shared mission to celebrate the story of the man behind the magic and inspire new generations with his innovations and vision for the future. We appreciate the continued efforts and meticulous care that Imagineering has taken to keep Walt’s legacy alive,” Kirsten Komoroske, Executive Director of the Walt Disney Family Museum said.
Walt Disney – A Magical Life opened at Disneyland earlier this year, and we said it is a remarkable experience that honors Walt’s legacy in a powerful way. We were also invited to Imagineering to learn how they were bringing Walt back to life as an Audio-Animatronic for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary, and we walked away so happy that it is a project filled with so much respect, authenticity, incredible little details, and a ton of Disney magic.
