What might Marvel have in store for Daredevil: Born Again sidekick Foggy Nelson? Amid speculation over the character’s future, actor Elden Henson has responded to suggest he has “no idea” what’s to come, despite a popular fan theory — and a big in-show hint — that there may be more going on than meets the eye.
Warning! Spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season 1 follow.
As Daredevil: Born Again fans will know, the series’ Disney+ revival dramatically kills off Matt Murdock/Daredevil’s loyal friend and legal partner Foggy Nelson in its opening episode.
Or does it? While the character’s death is played straight on screen, Marvel fans fed on years of fake-outs and resurrections believe this isn’t the end for Foggy.
One widely-discussed fan theory centers on a storyline from the original Daredevil comics, where Foggy fakes his own death after being stabbed and enters FBI witness protection. The reveal, several issues later, that Foggy survived the ordeal was a shock both to readers and, in-universe, Matt Murdock himself, who truly believed his friend had died. Could something similar happen here?
Of course, plenty of things have happened in the comics that have not appeared on screen (fellow sidekick Karen Page has also died in the comics — and stayed dead) but there’s an added wrinkle here. Born Again’s first episode shows an address for the team’s new law firm — Nelson, Murdock, and Page — at #468. And which Daredevil comic issue did Foggy return from the dead? #468.
And then there’s the pretty clear answer from Marvel TV boss and Daredevil executive producer Brad Winderbaum, who previously said that Elden would be back in some capacity for Born Again’s upcoming second season — though whether through flashbacks or similar is unclear.
“I see Karen and Foggy as being intrinsically tied to Matt,” Winderbaum previously told YouTuber Brandon Davis. “I don’t think there’s a Matt Murdock story without those two characters, and I’m excited to see them both in season two as well.”
Asked for more detail, Winderbaum simply said: “Both Deborah [Ann Woll] and Elden are coming back for season two.”
With all of this in mind, here’s what Elden has now said to a fan when asked at a convention if Foggy had faked his own demise.
“A lot of people brought that up,” Elden says of his character’s return in the Daredevil comics. “But I don’t really know that much about it to be honest. When we started the show, the original one, I just didn’t have a lot of time to prepare, you know what I mean. So the answer is, I have no idea.”
Elden appears to be suggesting here that because he did not originally have much time to prepare for the role of Foggy in Daredevil prior to the Netflix season’s first season in 2015, he is now unclear whether his character could come back on Born Again a decade later.
“They killed me off the show so I’m not a part of it anymore,” Elden continued. “So I don’t really know, even if there was something going on.”
It’s intriguing to consider Elden’s statement here in light of Winderbaum’s previous comments that Elden would return. Perhaps something has now changed, and Elden really isn’t returning — or perhaps Elden is simply trying Andrew Garfield’s technique of denying something that would otherwise be a big spoiler.
Disney has yet to announce a release date for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, but showrunner Dario Scardapane has told fans to expect more episodes in March 2026.
