Businesses could benefit from improved speeds, efficiency, and performance with Wi-Fi 7, according to the results of trials by the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA).

The organisation, which seeks to connect users with the latest Wi-Fi initiatives, said that the trials highlighted Wi-Fi 7’s potential to support “mission-critical” enterprise applications such as AI, cloud computing and industrial Internet of Things (IoT).

Wi-Fi 7, also known as IEEE 802.11be, works across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands and has features including wider channel bandwidth, higher data density, and Multi-Link Operation (MLO) for enhanced performance and stability.

The trials assessed Wi-Fi 7’s capabilities in both controlled and real-world enterprise environments, focusing on latency, and signal range across different frequencies and channel widths.

The WBA said the results of the trial demonstrated Wi-Fi 7’s ability to address key connectivity challenges in smart offices, manufacturing, healthcare, and immersive digital environments.

Enterprises that rely on real-time collaboration such as video conferencing and AI-driven automation could also benefit from Wi-Fi 7’s lower latency and higher throughput, which the WBA said will ensure seamless user experiences without performance bottlenecks.

The WBA added that the results also confirmed that Wi-Fi 7 delivers significant improvements in 5 GHz networks, where many legacy devices still operate, ensuring backward compatibility and an easier transition for enterprises upgrading their infrastructure.

Tiago Rodrigues, president and chief executive of the WBA, said that as adoption accelerates enterprises will see tangible benefits in everything from hybrid work and immersive experiences to AI-driven automation.
