Alien: Earth Season 1 is done and dusted with one hell of a cliffhanger. While we won’t spoil the story here (check out our Alien: Earth season finale review for more), the question on everyone’s lips right now is, will there be a Season 2?
While Disney has yet to green light a Season 2, creator Noah Hawley has expressed his hope that it becomes a reality. Speaking to Polygon, Hawley sounded calm about leaving fans on the edge following the events of Season 1.
“I’m pretty confident, given the show’s success, that we’ll get to make more,” he said. “The risk is the reward.”
Wendy actress Sydbey Chandler also chimed in, saying: “I’m hoping, hoping, hoping we get to go again to see what those dynamics will turn out to be. As Noah said, not enough people died in Season 1. So if we go to Season 2, it’s happening, which is terrifying. As an actor, you’re like: please don’t let it be me.”
Meanwhile, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hawley went into a little more detail on decision-making for a potential Season 2.
“There are artistic goals and the commercial goals,” he said. “I think we’ve launched incredibly well. I’m certainly hoping that it’s not a long nail biter of “Can we do this again?” My hope is certainly in the next couple of months to get some kind of sign from them as to whether I should get another job or get back to work.”
And in an interview with Variety, Hawley insisted he hadn’t started work on Season 2, saying “it’s conversational at this point.” But it very much sounds like he’s ready to go.
“You learn to be efficient and don’t work ahead of yourself,” he said. “There’s conversations that are going on — obviously, the show’s about to wrap, and we’ll get a really complete sense of what the viewership was, and I would imagine that a decision would follow soon after as to whether to do a second season. Obviously, none of us — Disney or myself — want a single day longer than necessary to get a second season on the air, in success. Everyone wants to get this decision right. But we also want to be ready to go. I certainly know where I’m going. The moment they fire the starting gun, I’m out of the block.”
Over to Disney then for that “sign” Hawley is talking about. While you wait to find out, be sure to check out IGN’s Alien: Earth Season 1 Ending Explained – How It Can All Fit Into the Bigger Alien Movie Universe feature.
