Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Sequel Confirmed

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Sequel Confirmed

Soulslike success Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will get a sequel, it’s been announced, despite previous reports that the game’s original development team had disbanded.

Indeed, the project appears to have been greenlit at a new studio founded by Wuchang: Fallen Feathers creative director Xia Siyuan, with the aid of publisher 505 Games, which announced it had acquired the full rights to the franchise back in April.

Despite a positive critical and commercial response, a follow-up to Wuchang previously appeared unlikely. Numerous reports stated that Siyuan had departed developer Leenzee, followed by various other colleagues, after studio bosses reportedly told staff to pivot away from post-launch support and onto other projects.

Exactly what occurred remains unclear, though the game has not been updated since last November. In the meantime, Siyuan — and, it’s assumed, other members of the development team — have been setting up a new studio to push ahead on a sequel.

“We are delighted to once again enter into a deep partnership with 505 Games under our new studio brand, Chengdu Indolphinity,” Siyuan said, confirming his new developer’s name. “As a development team made up of Chinese creators, we firmly believe that profound cultural heritage is our greatest competitive strength.

“505 Games respects the creative process and understands developers’ needs. Our philosophies are highly aligned, giving us great confidence in the long-term future of the series. We take player and community feedback seriously while remaining committed to our original vision and cultural roots. We will strive to deliver higher quality and a more complete experience in response to players’ long-standing expectations.

“The story of Wuchang is not over. Chengdu Indolphinity and 505 Games will embark on a new journey together, opening a brand-new chapter for this story rooted in Eastern soil.”

There’s no word yet on when this sequel might see the light of day, but this announcement does at least confirm it is on the way.

“Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is yet another great Soulslike to add to the ever-increasing pile, featuring excellent combat, wonderful level design, an incredible skill tree, and fearsome bosses,” we wrote in IGN’s Wuchang: Fallen Feathers review, which returned an 8/10 score. “Just watch out for some steep difficulty dips and spikes, and a reliance on cheap-feeling ‘gotcha!’ ambushes.”
