Zendaya is one of Hollywood’s most popular — and most profitable — actresses, with tons of upcoming projects on the way. But it seems as though the starlet is thinking about pumping the breaks soon for fear of fans and audiences getting “sick” of her.
“I guess, you know, I just hope people don’t get sick of me,” she revealed in a recent interview with Fandango for her upcoming dramedy The Drama. “And I really appreciate everyone who supports any of the movies or supports my career in any kind of way. I’m deeply appreciative, and like I said, I just hope you guys don’t get sick of me this year. Because I’ll tell you what, after this I’m disappearing for a little bit. I’m going to have to go into hiding for just a little bit.”
Zendaya has a long list of projects set to come out this year. The Drama, which was written and directed by Dream Scenario filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli and costars Robert Pattinson, arrives in theaters just days from now, and the third season of HBO’s Euphoria is hot on its trails with its debut coming in just over a week.
Beyond April, Zendaya will appear in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey in July and the next installment in the Tom Holland spidey saga Spider-Man: Brand New Day later that month. She closes out the year with the highly anticipated Dune Part 3 in December.
Zendaya’s comments echo those Margot Robbie gave in 2024, when she said she was taking a short break from acting to focus on producing because “everybody is probably sick” of the sight of her after the Barbie movie.
Robbie explained that she hadn’t taken on an acting role in “more than a year” because she wanted to take a step back from the screen after the mega-success of Barbie, considering the overexposure that can come from the press tours and various other engagements around such a release.
“This is the longest I haven’t acted on a set because we finished Barbie in October of 2022,” Robbie revealed. “So, it’s already been more than a year since I was on set as an actor, and other than Covid, that’s the first time that’s ever happened.
“I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now,” she added. “I should probably disappear from screens for a while. Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.”
