A third Jump Street movie, ironically titled 24 Jump Street, is reportedly in the works with Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube. Variety reported that the threequel is currently in development, with all three stars currently in negotiations to join the cast for the film. Unlike the first two films, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are not returning to direct – but they will stay on board as producers. Instead, Rodney Rothman (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) will direct. Rothman co-wrote the script with Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy.

As for why the film is titled 24 Jump Street as opposed to 23 Jump Street, it’s believed that the filmmakers are committing to a bit at the end of 22 Jump Street. At the end of that film there’s a montage that runs through a bunch of theoretical sequel ideas, with 23 Jump Street being set at a medical school. It’s unclear if this will actually be acknowledged in the film, but the series has always been extremely self-aware.

A third Jump Street movie has been in development hell for a decade. At one point, the third film was going to be a crossover between the Jump Street crew and Men in Black, but that never got off the ground. While it’s possible this new film could revive the concept, it seems unlikely given Men in Black lacks the brand power that it once possessed, unlike Jump Street.

The Jump Street franchise sees Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill filling the shoes of undercover cops, attempting to stop crime at various schools. It’s unclear if that theme will continue, given Tatum is 46 and Jonah Hill is 42, but the films are self-aware enough to make that part of the bit if they go that route.
