Paramount Pictures followed this with an official press release, revealing that the Days of Thunder sequel will be filmed for IMAX. It will be released in theaters on premium large formats including IMAX, 4DX and Dolby Cinema on June 2, 2028:
“Tom Cruise will return as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle and will be joined by Anne Hathaway who is set to play a team owner and engineer in the upcoming follow-up to the groundbreaking 1990 film that revolutionized cinema. Cruise will star and produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. Jonathan Levine is set to direct from a script by Will Staples.”
Director Jonathan Levine’s past credits include 50/50, The Long Shot, Warm Bodies, The Night Before, and All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. His next film release is the fact-based sports drama Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story, starring Superman’s David Corenswet.
Anne Hathaway can currently be seen on cinema screens in The End of Oak Street and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. She’ll next be seen in the thriller Verity. Hathaway’s other releases this year include The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Mother Mary.
