Baby Born During Harry Potter in Movie Theater

A baby girl now has “Cineworld” listed as her official place of birth, after popping out during a recent Harry Potter screening.

Elsie Lamb was born around 45 minutes into Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (that’s Sorcerer’s Stone if you’re in the U.S.). And now, officially, her birthplace has been recorded as the Cineworld movie theater in Broughton, North Wales.

BBC News reports that Potter-mad mom Molly Connah, 32, was overdue to give birth and had attended an appointment just hours earlier for a sweep — a process meant to encourage the start of labor. What happened next, then, could probably have been predicted — even if it still might have seemed like magic.

“I can remember the scene I was watching when I walked out,” Connah said. “It was when Hagrid and Harry are buying his stuff to go to Hogwarts. I thought, ‘something doesn’t feel right’.

“It was getting more and more intense, and I didn’t want anything to go wrong,” she continued. “At that point I think my body just went into shock and it was pure adrenalin.”

Thankfully, Connah was assisted by her mom, as well as staff at the Cineworld and nearby Starbucks, who provided towels and sheets.

“I said to my mum, ‘I feel like I need to push,'” Connah recalled. “She said, ‘you can’t’. I said, ‘I can’t, I need to. I’ve got to’. Two pushes and my daughter was out.”

Within minutes, an emergency medic and also Elsie Lamb’s father had both made it to the scene, and the family was then transferred to hospital before the film’s credits rolled. All are now doing well, it’s reported, and have visited the Cineworld again to thank staff for their help.

Cineworld, meanwhile, have given the family four free tickets to a future showing, as they missed the end of the movie.

Harry Potter recently returned to theaters in celebration of the first film’s 25th anniversary, and so Warner Bros. could wring out one last bit of nostalgia for its movies before the franchise is rebooted via HBO’s Harry Potter TV series that debuts this Christmas.
