Daredevil: Born Again will reportedly end with its upcoming third season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Daredevil: Born Again will not return for a fourth season. Disney reportedly made the decision following the end of production on the third season, suggesting the show wasn’t necessarily designed to end here. Additionally, THR reports that the Marvel series’ showrunner, Dario Scardapane, exited the project during post-production. Sources reportedly raised eyebrows at the departure, as it has left the show without a clear leader to finish it. Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is currently expected to premiere in 2027.
It’s unclear if Daredevil: Born Again was canceled or if it truly is just the end of this story. The series wasn’t a smash hit when it came to ratings, but was hailed as a success by critics and fans, especially compared to other Marvel shows. Disney has pulled back on Marvel TV series in recent years following a string of mediocre releases, but is still committed to a small handful moving forward. The next Marvel show will be VisionQuest, releasing on October 14. THR also noted that three to five other shows are in development, including a spy series named Zodiac.
Wonder Man was also canceled earlier this summer, despite getting greenlit for a second season. As of right now, it’s unclear what Daredevil’s future is in the MCU. Fans have wanted to see him in a film, especially after his brief cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. As Spidey continues to embrace street-level battles, a Daredevil crossover in the next film could be extremely fruitful.
This is also the second time the Man Without Fear has had his TV time cut short at the third season. Netflix and Marvel pulled the plug on the original Daredevil series in 2018 following a critically-acclaimed third season. A fourth season was expected to follow, but various issues prevented that from happening, such as Disney trying to launch its own streamer with original programming. It took the better part of a decade to get Daredevil back on screen, but fans were excited once it finally happened, particularly because it continued the story of the original show and leveraged its darker tone.
Is this the end of Matt Murdock’s journey in the MCU? Only time will tell, but we hope that’s not the case.
