Spider-Man: Brand New Day hides an appearance by yet another Marvel Comics superhero — someone who has quietly made cameos in previous Spider-Man and Avengers movies. Did you spot them?
In the comics, Cindy Moon is well known via her alter ego Silk, who begins her superhero journey as a Korean-American student bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker. But fewer fans will know that Cindy has also been quietly teased within the MCU for a decade, with appearances in a string of films.
In Brand New Day, Cindy is the student in Bruce Banner’s class who asks the question about Thanos — why the big purple baddie didn’t just double the universe’s resources instead of killing half of its life. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment (and a good question!), but actually the latest in a consistent series of cameos.

Cindy first appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, portrayed by actress Tiffany Espensen, and makes numerous appearances throughout the movie as one of Peter’s classmates. While Cindy largely remains in the background, she still has a few lines of dialogue — enough that her character remains notable enough to appear again in future.
Audiences next glimpsed Cindy in Avengers: Infinity War, on the same school bus as Peter and Ned, again played by Espensen. Fast forward to Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Cindy returns one more time via the film’s extended cut post-credit scene that features previously-unused footage.

With Espensen now seemingly retired from acting, Brand New Day sees Shannon Young Cho take on Cindy’s role — and continue on the character in Tom Holland’s second trilogy of films. But where is this all going? Is Marvel playing the long game with Cindy’s introduction, or is this just a fun set of Easter eggs for Cindy Moon fans?
“Seeing the same character in three movies doesn’t feel random,” one fan wrote wrote on social media. “It looks like Marvel is slowly setting up something bigger.”
“Marvel/Sony are definitely slowly soft launching Cindy Moon to the general public more and more and I cannot wait to see Silk,” said another.
“Cindy f***ing Moon has more MCU appearances than Shang Chi,” noted another fan.
While Cindy’s MCU future isn’t yet certain, the jaw-dropping success of Brand New Day now makes Spider-Man 5 seem inevitable. Perhaps we’ll finally see Silk emerge then?
