Spain’s CaixaBank has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud in a move designed to accelerate its use of AI, data analytics and cloud technology across its operations.
The agreement extends the collaboration between the two organisations until 2033, building on a partnership first announced in 2023.
CaixaBank said it will use the expanded partnership to strengthen internal decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and deliver more personalised products and services to its more than 13 million digital customers.
As part of the deal, the bank will deploy Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise platform to help employees analyse complex financial information, automate routine processes and streamline day-to-day workflows.
The collaboration will focus on three areas: data analytics and agentic AI, hybrid cloud infrastructure and security, and workforce training.
CaixaBank said it will use Gemini Enterprise to create AI agents that can manage documents, classify information and summarise complex content, helping staff make decisions more quickly.
The bank also plans to combine its private technology environment with Google Cloud’s infrastructure to improve resilience, scalability and service availability. The rollout will include additional threat detection and security monitoring, which CaixaBank said will operate within its existing governance, privacy and responsible AI frameworks.
Alongside the technology deployment, Google Cloud will provide professional services, collaborative projects and training programmes to help employees adopt the new AI and cloud capabilities.
CaixaBank, which has the largest digital customer base in Spain’s banking sector, said innovation remains one of its strategic priorities as it looks to develop new products and services, improve customer experience and increase operational efficiency.
Last month, BNP Paribas signed a five-year partnership with Google Cloud to accelerate the deployment of agentic AI across its business, expanding access to Google’s cloud infrastructure and Gemini AI models.
The partnership will see the French bank use Google Cloud’s AI-optimised infrastructure, Gemini Enterprise and Gemini models to support a wider rollout of AI across the organisation, with an initial focus on its Corporate & Institutional Banking division.
