As hype around Grand Theft Auto 6 grows, the game’s community is discussing a YouTuber who recently tried walking into developer Rockstar’s offices — prompting an intervention by the police.
German YouTuber ÜberGaming has published footage that appears to show him walking through the front doors of Rockstar North, the company’s Edinburgh headquarters, and then a photo of two police offers he alleges were called as a result.
It’s unclear if ÜberGaming actually believed he was likely to uncover anything about GTA 6 as a result of just turning up at the company’s office — or, more likely, if the whole thing was just a stunt for attention. Regardless, the fact he did it is now being discussed online, as are wild and unfounded stories about him subsequently being detained or charged for trespassing.
“We were staying in a luxury hotel across from Rockstar Games,” ÜberGaming says in a video published yesterday, which shows footage of him outside a Marriot. “We were also inside the [Rockstar] building, where it only took seconds before we were asked to leave.
“After we attracted attention, the police eventually arrived. They took down our information and asked what we wanted. When we asked why they were taking our information, they said ‘If anything about GTA 6 is leaked, they will let you know.’ We now have five stars in real life with Rockstar Games.”
This isn’t the first time someone has turned up at Rockstar’s offices seeking attention. Last year, a TikTok user posted a concerning video showing Rockstar North employees being approached outside and harassed for information on the game.
Rockstar Games’ Edinburgh office has long served as the heart of the company, with development of the major Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption games taking place within its walls.
In November last year, the building was the site of protests over Rockstar’s sudden firing of workers amid an increasingly bitter dispute that alleges the layoffs were due to the employees’ union membership — a claim that Rockstar itself has vehemently denied. In January this year, fire crews rushed to an explosion in the building — though this turned out to be a malfunctioning boiler.
Rockstar’s hugely-anticipated game is currently set to launch on November 19.
