Has the WWE Revealed the Gears of War: E-Day Release Date?

Fans think Gears of War: E-Day could be coming as soon as September, because of a WWE teaser.

Recently announced at Backlash in Tampa, Florida, Triplemania is the biggest event of the Lucha Libre AAA calendar. AAA is a subsidiary of WWE and will be hosting the premium live event over two dates in September, the 11th and 13th. The latter will take place in Ciudad de México, while the former’s location has yet to be revealed.

But how does this all link to Gears of War? Well, the upcoming prequel, E-Day, is set to sponsor the event, as the logo for the game can be spotted at the end of a trailer posted on the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s social media accounts.

Is this significant? Well, kinda. Games don’t normally receive this sort of public marketing until they’re close to release, or have just come out. At Wrestlemania 41, Drew McIntyre walked out in Doom: The Dark Ages attire, less than a month before iD Software’s shooter released. Similarly, Borderlands 4 was promoted via tag team The Street Profits at 2025’s Clash in Paris, just two weeks before its launch date on September 12.

So, the precedent is there, and if those examples are anything to go by, could we expect E-Day to make its way into players’ hands within a few weeks of the middle of September? It would certainly make sense for anyone releasing a game in 2026 to do so before November, and the juggernaut that is GTA 6 arrives. Hopefully, we’ll know for sure soon, as Gears of War: E-Day is set for its own dedicated showcase on June 7 after this year’s Xbox Games Showcase.

Incidentally, a WWE wrestler of luchador origins, Rey Fenix, shares the same surname as Gears of War hero, Marcus Fenix. It may be a stretch here, but could we see him show up during AAA sporting some E-Day-related outfit for his entrance? I wouldn’t be surprised.

Microsoft has a lot of games left to squeeze into what remains of 2026. Halo: Campaign Evolved is reportedly targeting a release in the summer. Gears of War: E-Day is set for the second half of the year. Playground’s Fable, as we know, is due out in the fall. Then there’s the next Call of Duty game to consider, and anything else Activision Blizzard and Bethesda might have up their sleeves that are yet to be confirmed for 2026.

For more on Gears, check out how we think Gears of War: E-Day needs to rediscover the series’ summer blockbuster sense of fun, and an interview with the director of the prequel about how it aims to “feel like a horror story”.
