Heated Rivalry’s stars continue to be unstoppable, with Connor Storrie, who played Ilya Rosanov in the HBO hockey romance, in talks for a role in a new thriller from The Penguin director Craig Zobel. The movie is called Turpentine, and Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Ghostbuster) is also rumored to be involved.

Deadline couldn’t confirm which role Storrie is in talks for, but a quick look at the synopsis for the movie and it’s easy to imagine he’s in the running for the lead.

“Follows a deadbeat son who hires friends to rob his own parents to pay off a bookie, with disastrous results.”

Alongside Heated Rivalry costar Hudson Williams, Storrie was rocketed to stardom as a result of his role in Heated Rivalry. Previously his biggest credit had been as an unnamed inmate in Joker: Folie à Deux, but since the show aired at the end of last year, he’s hosted SNL, carried the 2026 Winter Olympics torch, and been signed by mega-casting agency CAA. Season 2 of Heated Rivalry is currently planned for 2027, and Storrie will also star in the upcoming A24 movie Peaked from The Bear’s Molly Gordon.

Earlier this week Heated Rivalry show creator, writer, and director Jacob Tierney revealed new details for Season 2 of the queer hockey drama series, promising “there’s still lots of flirting and lots of sex” but “The Long Game is an emotionally sophisticated book that takes this couple seriously.”
