Horror Sequel Arriving February 2028

Good news if you loved the Valentine’s-themed horror Heart Eyes, a sequel to Josh Ruben’s 2025 horror romcom just got a release date. Unfortunately it’s going to be a bit of a wait, with the release currently planned for February 11, 2028.

Deadline revealed that Josh Ruben will return to direct Ruben and Darcy Fowler penning a script based on a story by Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy. Ruben is building a solid career in the horror genre, directing 2021’s Werewolves Within and directing and writing 2020’s Scare Me. Fans of the TV series spin-off of The Creep Tapes might also recognize him as Brad from the first season.

The original Heart Eyes focused on Ally McCabe, an unlucky-in-love jewelry marketer who attracted the attention of a serial murderer dubbed the Heart Eyes Killer. After plenty of deaths and a few twists and turns, a mids-credit scene did hint at Ally’s nightmare not being quite over, so there’s every chance her story will continue for the sequel. In January DreadCentral revealed that Ruben had already finished the script for Heart Eyes 2.

Heart Eyes was released for Valentine’s Day last year and pulled in $33 million at the box office before hitting Netflix in May and ranking as the sixth most watched title, according to Showlabs. Our reviewer called the movie “a Valentine’s Day genre blend that’s likable, if not especially scary or clever.”

Rachel Weber is the Head of Editorial Development at IGN and an elder millennial. She’s been a professional nerd since 2006 when she got her start on Official PlayStation Magazine in the UK, and has since worked for GamesIndustry.Biz, Rolling Stone and GamesRadar. She loves horror, horror movies, horror games, Red Dead Redemption 2, and her Love and Deepspace boyfriends.
