In the midst of a monstrous box office run, Obsession has suddenly become available on premium video-on-demand platforms. The digital version of the breakout horror hit, which arrives on PVOD without any preceding announcement, is now available to rent for $19.99 or purchase for $24.99.
Obsession has also become available to preorder on Blu-ray with a release date of July 14. Both the Blu-ray and the digital version of the film include extras like a behind-the-scenes featurette titled ‘Obsession Unleashed.’

Obsession’s digital release was originally slated for June 2, which would have given the film just two weeks of theater exclusivity. Meanwhile, the film was seeing not only a massive box office turnout – it easily made back its budget in just its opening weekend – that turnout was steadily increasing every week.
It wasn’t too surprising, then, when the digital release was delayed. After more than two months in theaters, Obsession has grossed over $370 million and taken the crown as Focus Features’ highest-grossing movie. It recently made its way into the top 20 highest-grossing horror movies of all time. Yes, of all time.

Reddit forums have popped up predicting a digital release pretty much every week since that delay, but the time has finally come. This particular release date was already theorized over this past weekend based on a ’When to Stream’ calendar update that was referenced in a Forbes article.
The surprise move to digital doesn’t mean the film is out of theaters just yet, as a number of showtimes are still available across most popular theater chains through the next week. It does, however, suggest that the box office monster is winding down its theatrical presence.
Obsession, directed by Curry Barker, actually premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in late 2025. We had the slightest hint about how big of an impact the movie would make upon its wide release: when IGN first unveiled a clip which happened to be part of the now internet famous dinner date scene, it quickly became one of the biggest posts on any of our social media platforms that day.
Still, few could realistically anticipate the film’s record-breaking (and still ongoing) success.
