Ryan Reynolds has spent over a decade mocking his notorious 2011 comic book movie flop, Green Lantern, perhaps most famously by including a meta post-credits scene in Deadpool 2 where the merc with a mouth goes back in time to blow out Reynolds’ brains all over a copy of the Green Lantern screenplay. Now, with the HBO series Lanterns out, the actor seems to have developed an appreciation for his DC film, declaring, “I owe my entire career to that movie.”
Speaking on the red carpet at the premiere of his new movie Mayday, Reynolds was asked by Entertainment Tonight if he’d ever consider making a cameo in Lanterns.
“I would totally do a cameo in that,” Reynolds said. “I love it. I learned so much making that movie. And I know what you’re thinking, you’re thinking, ‘Oh, learned what not to do.’ In part, yes. But also, any time you’re making something that large, there are core lessons that come of it.”
“I owe my entire career to that movie. I owe everything to that,” Reynolds said. “Everything about it was a gift that keeps on giving. And I really enjoyed the experience of making it.”
Reynolds also met his wife, Blake Lively, on that film. He played Hal Jordan opposite Lively as played Carol Ferris.
Reynolds’ history of poking fun at Green Lantern is lengthy, including trolling fans that his Green Lantern was in the Snyder Cut. Green Lantern director Martin Campbell has expressed his regrets about the film, but thinks it “would’ve been great” had Reynolds scripted it.
Reynolds most recently popped up in a grey Deadpool costume at San Diego Comic-Con to crash the Avengers: Doomsday panel.
