LEGO Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots Set Confirmed, Releasing June 1

LEGO Shrek, Donkey, & Puss in Boots is now available to preorder on the LEGO Store. Besides confirming the previously leaked set is real, the listing also confirms a $129.99 price tag and a release date of June 1. As of now, the set is looking like a LEGO Store-exclusive.

LEGO Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots

As you may have gleaned from the title, set #72423 includes LEGO versions of Shrek, his sidekick Donkey, and the iconic Puss in Boots. Yes, the full gang.

The LEGO Store’s images give a sense of what the set will look like fully built. The main features are full-body builds of Shrek and Donkey, while Puss in Boots is included as a minifigure. That does make proportions a bit funky, but it also means you get a Puss in Boots minifig.

Besides the characters themselves, the set features small decorations that suggest we’re situated in Shrek’s swamp. The big hint, of course, is the ‘Beware Ogre’ sign. More images indicate the set will be at least slightly posable, with Shrek moving his arms to hold various flowers and Donkey’s mouth seemingly able to open and close. It also seems like you can open up Shrek’s stomach, for whatever that’s worth.

At 1403 pieces, the listing indicates the set is intended for adults, most likely aimed at folks like myself who grew up on the Shrek movies and lived through a “Shrek is life” era of the internet. While this year marks the 25th anniversary of the original film, the collaboration is also likely tied to the upcoming sequel Shrek 5, which is slated to release in theaters next year.

LEGO also revealed a smaller BrickHeadz set featuring Shrek, Donkey, and Gingy, which costs $24.99 and releases on the same day.

In case you were curious, a lawsuit between Midjourney and Dreamworks clarified that the legal definition of Shrek is “large, bald, dull-green ogre with a broad, round face, brown eyes, and highly distinctive trumpet-shaped ears. Shrek typically wears crude clothing consisting of a canvas-like shirt, a leather vest, and brown leggings.” The LEGO set certainly seems to fit that description.

More LEGO News

This leak being proven real gives even more validity to other LEGO leaks, like an upcoming Minas Tirith Lord of the Rings set. All in all, June is definitely a month for LEGO fans to look out for, but we’ve also seen plenty of new sets release in April:

In the meantime, there’s plenty more confirmed upcoming LEGO sets. If you’re looking to build sooner rather than later, we’re also seeing deals on LEGO Star Wars sets ahead of May the 4.
