The Closed Alpha for Marvel Rivals is fast approaching, and the list of iconic Marvel faces players will be able to choose from is exciting.

When it comes to the team-based hero shooter genre, Overwatch 2 is one of the first games that comes to mind for many gamers. However, the recent announcement of Marvel Rivals has propped up an exciting new competitor for Overwatch 2 to go head-to-head with. As the title suggests, Marvel Rivals pits iconic Marvel Comics characters against one another in 6v6 teams, promising some thrilling matches. Currently, Marvel Rivals doesn’t have a set release date, but the upcoming Closed Alpha will bring the game one step closer to becoming a finished project.

The Closed Alpha for Marvel Rivals begins on May 10, and it is currently accepting applicants. Thanks to a new dev diary from the team behind Marvel Rivals, players now know which characters will be featured in the upcoming test. Participants can look forward to an impressive list of characters to choose from that many Marvel fans will be familiar with.

In addition to the long list of characters, there will also be three maps to choose from, with two out of the three maps being set in Yggsgard. With Loki being the King of Yggsgard, it will be exciting to fight as the character in his own domain. One of the most exciting features revolves around the confirmation of destructible environments, which is sure to make matches that much more dynamic.

Players who are chosen to be in the Closed Alpha will get the chance to experience three distinct game modes. Although the names of these three modes have been confirmed, the dev diary was pretty secretive about what those modes entail. In order to compete against the likes of Overwatch 2, Marvel Rivals will need some unique gameplay, so it will be exciting to see how these three modes set the game apart from other titles in the genre.


There will be 30,000 participants chosen from the large number of applicants, and the lucky ones who get to participate will be selected based on the specs of their systems. As May 10 gets closer, it will be intriguing to see what the first impressions are for Marvel Rivals.
