Marvel’s Wolverine Player Glitches Out of Bounds — Here’s What They Found

A Marvel’s Wolverine player has discovered a glitch that allows for out of bounds exploration right up to the edges of the map.

Warning! Spoilers for Marvel’s Wolverine follow…

A YouTuber called “Turned” published a video showing how Logan is able to climb up and over a seemingly innocuous building to go out of bounds in the mission, The One That Got Away. From there is a huge area to explore — much bigger than the linear play space would suggest — packed with all sorts of fun out of bounds gubbins, such as floating trees, ground that may or may not lead you under the map, and of course, glitchy collision. Turned makes their way to the boundaries of the map, where the ground squares off.

Youtuber Turned is demonstrating how there are glitches through which you can actually check the areas of map which were planned for the game.

Turned then published another video showing a similar out of bounds glitch in the Japan environment. By simply jumping over some trucks, Logan can leave the mission area and avoid triggering the automatic respawn.

There’s more fun glitchy stuff here, including cars that phase through walls. In the video, Turned follows the cars, which just keep driving straight forward until they despawn. What a sorry existence. The pedestrians don’t seem bothered though.

Things then get weirder — Turned explores buildings with no interior, views floating NPCs, and that old chestnut, the T-pose. The out of bounds areas for Japan are more detailed than the The One That Got Away mission, complete with eating areas and shops with interiors.

We’ve seen similar videos for countless video games over the years. In the last year or so, I’ve reported on out of bounds efforts in everything from Crimson Desert to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. But what’s remarkable here is the ease with which Turned is able to go out of bounds. It’s no surprise to see players discover these glitches when all you have to do is climb up a wall or jump over a vehicle. I suspect developer Insomniac will be keen to plug the gap sooner rather than later.

How do glitches like these make their way into a video game? TT Games developer Tim Spencer offered an explanation in a post on social media.

“FYI there’s a 99% chance QA will have caught this, but someone in production will have dropped it to a priority 2 or lower, and during triage when they needed to ship: pushed it to a later patch (I don’t want to think that they dropped it as WNF – ‘Will Not Fix’),” he said.

Earlier this week, Insomniac said it’s planning to “further refine the player experience” based on feedback. One aspect Insomniac may be looking at is Wolverine’s infamous “fart gas,” which has become the butt of online jokes in recent weeks. Some have called for Insomniac to add the ability to disable Logan’s scent trail entirely from the game amid complaints about handholding.

Meanwhile, Marvel’s Wolverine players are testing its motorcycle sequence to see if Logan can die if you don’t touch the controller.
