Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac has teased the possibility that his hooded hero could return as part of a Midnight Sons team-up movie.
In Marvel comics, Moon Knight is a frequent member of the supernatural superhero team, alongside other familiar faces such as Blade, Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night and Elsa Bloodstone — all of which have previously appeared on TV or in Marvel movies in one form or another.
Fans have long speculated that Moon Knight will next appear in a Midnight Sons film, especially since there’s been no firm word over a second season of the character’s dedicated MCU TV series. The long-awaited arrival of Blade, set to be played by Mahershala Ali, has also kindled the expectation of a Midnight Sons movie happening some day — though the longer that wait goes on, the less seems certain.
Now, speaking via the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Isaac has confirmed that there was “interesting talk” about a Midnight Sons movie happening — even if it doesn’t sound like a project that’s currently in active development. Here’s what the actor said:
“Yeah there was an interesting talk about Midnight Sons,” Isaac revealed. “Tonally it’s really important because we’re playing with real stuff with that one. It’s expressing something very real, challenging and difficult. I feel like if you’re gonna go, you gotta take it seriously as well. Even though it’s a crazy comic book, but that’s what it’s trying to do, it’s doing both of those things.”
Could talk of a Midnight Sons movie have begun back when Marvel was developing one of its previous attempts to launch Blade’s production? We know that the studio has had various scripts in the works over recent years, and even got as far as buying costumes for a historical take on the character before plans “unraveled”. Now, production appears to currently be on pause once again, as Marvel prioritizes the launch of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars over the next couple of years, as well as an X-Men reboot.
Will Midnight Sons happen eventually? If Marvel ever gets around to making Blade, the film feels like a distinct possibility — and especially so if Ryan Gosling ever finally gets the nod to take on Ghost Rider.
“It’ll be me on the back of the bike, holding onto him,” Isaac joked about Disney’s interest in Gosling as Ghost Rider. “Fire, cape… that’s the poster.”
