GTA 6 will have sex scenes, according to a new listing from international ratings boards.
In New Zealand and Australia, GTA 6’s store page on PlayStation was updated to include the game’s official age rating. A similar thing happened this morning with the UK and American versions of the game, but the New Zealand and Australia versions offer one distinct difference: the mention of sex scenes. Yes, it’s true: there will be intercourse in GTA 6.
If you’re asking yourself, “Is that different from GTA 5?” Currently, it’s a bit unclear. GTA 5’s brief rating description on the store page makes no mention of sex scenes, despite there being at least one. Midway through the game, Trevor can be seen getting freaky with Johnny Klebitz’s girlfriend (granted, it’s pretty brief). Instead, the ratings description just mentions “Sex.”
It’s unclear if the ratings boards have evolved their language since GTA 5’s release nearly a decade and a half ago, or if GTA 6 will feature more scripted, detailed sex scenes more comparable to a film or TV show. It’s also possible that the more general, less specific description for GTA 5 is more pointedly referencing the ability to pick up sex workers and engage in intercourse with them. Ratings boards may view these gameplay moments differently from heavily mo-capped sex scenes featured in cutscenes.
GTA 6’s sex scenes may be much more focused and graphic, especially since the story revolves around the romantic relationship between Jason and Lucia. Various trailers have shown sensual, intimate scenes between the two characters, so it’s possible that the full game will feature some pretty spicy material. Ultimately, all we can do is speculate until we get detailed breakdowns of the specific content that led to this rating, which will surely follow in the coming weeks.
Ultimately, it looks like Rockstar isn’t pulling any punches with GTA 6. Rating descriptions have mentioned blood and gore, intense violence, drug use, and more, so it looks like we’re in for yet another edgy GTA game. The developer has managed to keep a lot under wraps, but recently revealed that it visited strip clubs in Florida for “research purposes.”
We’re officially just a month away from GTA 6’s release date, so there are sure to be many more marketing beats in the coming weeks. Whether that brings a new trailer or other forms of marketing remains to be seen, but Rockstar has shelled out serious dough for an ad on top of the Miami Heat’s arena in Florida and has begun placing ads in New York as of today.
Editor’s note: Added clarity and context around GTA 5’s original rating and sexual content.
