New Lara Croft Voice Alix Wilton Regan on Sophie Turner Casting

Veteran video game voice Alix Wilton Regan will soon be taking on the role of Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft, but she won’t be the only one. Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner is also scheduled to portray the same character in Prime Video’s adaptation of the series.

We had the opportunity to speak to Alix Wilton Regan, who is “really honored to have been trusted with this iconic British character,” and get her take: “I actually know Sophie personally and she will be the most perfect on-camera Lara Croft that you could imagine. She’s going to be wonderful.”

“It did need another iconic British actress to take it on for the television series. So Sophie, to me, is a very natural choice,” Wilton Regan continued: “She also looks like a Grecian goddess, if you’ve ever met her. And Lara? Lara’s hot, guys. So let’s have a really hot, really talented, iconic British actress playing her as well, you know?”

We also asked how she’d cope with the inevitable comparisons that will be made between the two performances: “I feel fine with it. I understand video games. I work predominantly in the video game world and I love it.”

Alix Wilton Regan also shared a pragmatic understanding of audience reactions: “Some people will love my games, some people will hate them, some people will love the TV show, some people will hate it. That’s okay. We’re all entitled to like what we like to dislike.”

At last year’s The Game Awards, we learned that the next-gen Tomb Raider that developer Crystal Dynamics announced three years ago is titled Tomb Raider: Catalyst. Published by Amazon Game Studios, it’s set to release in 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S. Meanwhile, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagining of the original Tomb Raider game, built with Unreal Engine 5 and due out this year. Both games will feature Alix Wilton Regan as Lara Croft, replacing actor Camilla Luddington — who portrayed Lara Croft in the 2013-2018 reboot trilogy.

Alix Wilton Regan has played a number of big video game characters over the years, including the Female Inquisitor in both Dragon Age: Inquisition and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Samantha Traynor in Mass Effect 3, Alt Cunningham in Cyberpunk 2077, and Aya in Assassin’s Creed Origins. Regan was set to play Joanna Dark in Microsoft’s Perfect Dark reboot, but it was canceled as part of a major round of layoffs.

Meanwhile, Amazon revealed a first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in January this year. The official photo shows Turner sporting a look that’s immediately adjacent to classic Lara Croft, from her dual thigh holsters to her red-tinted sunglasses. Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) is aboard the series as creator, writer, executive producer, and is co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge (Good Behavior). Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shōgun) is on deck as director.
