New Xbox Logo Available Today as a Dynamic Background, And More

New Xbox Logo Available Today as a Dynamic Background, And More

Xbox’s recently-refreshed logo will become available today as a dynamic background, and also launch as both a profile background and a gamer pic on Xbox consoles.

Newly-installed Xbox boss Asha Sharma announced the rollout this morning, following the logo’s initial reveal last month.

Seemingly by design, the shinier, more colorful logo brings back Xbox’s iconic original neon green — lost during the recent Xbox Series X/S era and replaced by a flat white style (that’s nothing to do with a coffee). In its place is a coloring more reminiscent of the original Xbox era, or the popular Xbox 360. Simpler times.

The branding switch is the latest quickfire change by Sharma since her reign at Xbox began in late February. In the couple of months since, she has greenlit long-requested features for current consoles, doubled down on Microsoft’s commitment to a next-gen Xbox console, ditched the division’s previous Microsoft Gaming name, and cut the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (while booting new Call of Duty games from the subscription on day one).

Last month brought a new mission statement from Sharma and Xbox veteran Matt Booty, who now serves as her second in command. Titled simply “We Are Xbox,” the document acknowledged that the company had “work to do” as “players were frustrated” by a lack of new Xbox features, higher prices for Xbox services, and a PC presence that “isn’t strong enough.”

Xbox will now “fix the fundamentals for players and partners,” Sharma and Booty wrote, first by improving the company’s current console generation, while simultaneously pushing forward on plans for its next machine, codenamed Project Helix.

While a lot of this may feel like window dressing, the start of Sharma’s tenure seems to have rekindled some of the mojo lost by Microsoft’s gaming division in recent years, through dwindling console sales, and market share ceded to PlayStation, PC and Nintendo. A new logo may not do much to change all of that in the short-term, but fans see it as a sign there are more positive times ahead.
