Overwatch Gets New Vampire-Inspired Support Hero, Map, and Big Character Reworks

Overwatch is getting a brand-new vampire-inspired support hero, as well as the conclusion of Act III in The Reign of Talon storyline and several big character changes.

Our new addition is Doctrine, a vampire support hero who deals lots of damage and healing with a high mechanical floor. He comes with a brand-new playable escort map, Watch Point Grimsvotn, a volcanic prison where he’s being held captive. What’s more, he’ll be playable for a trial weekend starting today, September 12, both on the BlizzCon convention floor and at home.

In other big news, Overwatch Season 5 begins on October 6. Dokiwatch is also returning, and there are some major character reworks planned: Roadhog is being reworked into a tank that “actually helps his team,” per Blizzard franchise leaders, while Sombra is moving into the support class.

Doctrine is Overwatch’s newest hero.

The Overwatch 2026 World Cup Finals are also taking place at BlizzCon this weekend, featuring live performances from Japanese pop group YOASOBI and K-Pop group LE SSERAFIM.

A new hero was also mentioned coming in Season 6, as well as a new Spotlight happening in February 2027, which will include a “new story, a fresh set of heroes, and amazing new systems” that the team said will bring the game back to “peak Overwatch.”

Also taking place this weekend is a special event that Overwatch has never done before; at BlizzCon, the voice of Cole Cassidy, Matt Mercer, will be leading an Overwatch tabletop RPG session, leading the voice actors for Symmetra, Sombra, Reinhardt, and Vendetta in a one-of-a-kind story built especially for this convention. BlizzCon will also be auctioning off figures, merchandise, artwork, collectibles, and more to benefit Make-A-Wish.

We also have to mention Overwatch’s collaboration with LE SSERAFIM, which is available now. This collab includes stylish themed cosmetics, emotes, and in-game challenges.

For more BlizzCon coverage, check out everything announced at the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony.

Editor’s Note. This story has been edited to note that Overwatch 2 dropped the “2” in it’s name earlier this year and is now simply called Overwatch.
