Anime streaming service Crunchyroll, which Sony-owned Funimation bought for nearly $1.2 billion in 2021, is getting its own dedicated hub on the PlayStation 5 home screen in Spring 2027. Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Hideaki Nishino made the announcement at today’s Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum.
The new hub on the PS5 promises to “[bring] together anime, anime-inspired games, and easy access to Crunchyroll” into one place on the PS5, which has a worldwide installed base of over 92 million units as of earlier this year. “From Crunchyroll membership on PlayStation, to the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series. Today, we take that partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment one step further with an anime hub on PlayStation,” said Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini. “Serving fans means meeting them where they already are.”
Crunchyroll says “players will have a dedicated place to discover anime and anime-inspired games and easily access the full Crunchyroll app.”
