Rayman Legends Retold Delayed to December

Ubisoft has delayed Rayman Legends Retold from October to December.

Ubisoft confirmed the news via a social post today, noting that although Rayman Legends Retold has gone gold and was due out October 1, it isn’t quite ready for launch. The team is taking the extra time to polish the game for release, which is now set for December 3. Expect a new look next week on September 22.

This will push Rayman Legends Retold out of the blast zone of major, earthshattering releases like Gears of War, Call of Duty, and GTA 6. Of course, Rayman appeals to a whole different audience, so those games may not have impacted its release in the first place, but it does allow it to soak up a bit more attention. Placing it in the heart of the holiday season may also give it more visibility for potential gifts, but we’ll have to see how it all shakes out.

Rayman Legends Retold was announced earlier this summer, and the first previews for it were quite glowing. It’s a reimagining of the 2013 platformer Rayman Legends, adding all kinds of new content, gameplay features, new 3D graphics, and much more. It is, by and large, a new game that leans on elements from the original release. It is the first Rayman game in 13 years so there’s hope from fans that if this performs well, the franchise will live on and continue to thrive.

Ubisoft has been on a kick of remakes this year, with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and now Rayman Legends Retold. The publisher was also supposed to release a remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, but it was canceled after quality concerns and years of troubles. It seems likely that Ubisoft will continue to remake classic titles from its past following the success of Black Flag Resynced.
