The first teaser trailer for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 confirms that the beloved serial killer drama will return next month.
Paramount has released the first footage from Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, confirming a release date of October 30, just in time for Halloween. The first footage shows that Dexter’s age is catching up to him as he needs to buy some glasses for the first time, but of course, that hasn’t stopped him from slaying other killers. We see a few quick cuts of Dexter’s deadly routine, but it doesn’t reveal much beyond what you might expect.

However, Entertainment Weekly has a preview of Season 2 which reveals more details. The new season will feature a three-year time jump, allowing for Dexter’s son, Harrison, to age up and become a cop. His son is now 21 and working with the NYPD, which is bound to create some kind of conflict for the pair. Dexter himself is dealing with a mid-life crisis, which manifests itself through two main antagonists: one who is much older and one who is much younger.
The younger of the two is Lucas Stark AKA the Five Borough Killer, who is stealing Dexter’s thunder in New York City, according to showrunner Clyde Phillips.
“He is killing in each borough to terrorize the city,” said Phillips when speaking to EW. “In his own weird midlife crisis way, one of the things that Dexter has always wanted is recognition. At the end of Season 1 of the original series, we have the scene where he’s being feted with confetti and people cheering him on and an airplane goes by with ‘I heart Dexter.’ As independent as he likes to think he is, he wants that recognition, and by the time the Five Borough Killer has killed one person, he already has the city in his grip. And that drives Dexter f***ing crazy, because nobody knows who he is.”
As for the older killer, Brian Cox will play the New York Ripper, an aging and brutal killer who terrorizes the families of his former victims. The character was teased in Season 1 when Dexter and Harrison saw pictures of one of the Ripper’s victims, as well as a recording of one of his disturbing phone calls.
“First of all, who would not want to work with Brian Cox? He is the master of the masterclass. Always prepared, always powerful,” Phillips said. “The word that I’ve been using is gravitas. You believe that this guy could do the horrible things he’s done. We meet him and he’s in a wheelchair, but he still terrorizes the survivors of the people he killed in phone calls. With a voice modulator, he’ll say, ‘Today would’ve been Rachel’s 40th birthday, you must miss her.’”
The new season of Dexter is jam-packed with stars such as Gabriel Luna, Brian Cox, Dan Stevens, Kane Hodder, and even Chris Jericho. The likes of Uma Thurman and Krysten Ritter will also return, alongside some more spoiler-y faces from Dexter’s past. It’s sure to be another blood-filled thrill ride.
