The Batman Part 2 star Robert Pattinson has called Steven Soderbergh stepping in to help finish the film a “selfless” act.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Steven Soderbergh would be stepping in to help finish The Batman Part 2. Director Matt Reeves ultimately had to step away from the film during its final weeks of production for a personal matter, and Soderbergh offered to help get principal photography across the finish line. He will then pass the baton back to Reeves, who will handle the post-production process.
It’s a unique situation, but one that Soderbergh is doing to help Reeves deliver on his vision. It’s not a case of a studio getting rid of one guy to bring in a yes-man to carry out their wishes; it’s a friend helping out a pal during a tough time.
When speaking with GamesRadar, Pattinson addressed the situation and spoke highly of Soderbergh for helping out on The Batman Part 2.
“I am so happy he’s come on to help Matt,” Pattinson said of Soderbergh. “It’s incredibly generous of him – and he’s doing it in the loveliest way. It’s completely selfless. I think Matt had put so much work into the script, and we’re almost done. So for someone to come in and say, ‘I just want to help Matt do it; I want to do it in conjunction with him and just get it to the edit.’ And to have someone who’s as talented as Steven doing it is great.”
Pattinson also noted that filming has resumed, and he is expected to return to set as Bruce Wayne/Batman next week. The film’s story remains tightly under wraps, as we don’t even know who the villains are. Sebastian Stan is expected to play one of the antagonists and has long been rumored for Harvey Dent, but his shaved head has made fans wonder if that’s accurate. Scarlett Johansson is also confirmed to have a large role, but it’s unclear who she will play or what side of the moral spectrum she will be on.
The Batman Part 2 is slated to hit theaters on February 18, 2026.
