Soap Star and Producer Patrick Muldoon Dies at 57

Starship Troopers, Days of our Lives, and Melrose Place actor Patrick Muldoon died on Sunday, April 19 aged 57. The actor’s manager confirmed the news to Variety, but the cause of death has not yet been reported.

Muldoon was perhaps best known for his work as Austin Reed on the beloved daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives. His original stint on the series ran from 1992 to 1995, but he returned to the series for another two years from 2011 to 2012.

He also had a starring role from 1995 to 1996 on the primetime soap Melrose Place, where he played the show’s villain Richard Hart. Fans and audiences may also know him from his recurring role on the iconic high school sitcom Saved By the Bell, and his work in Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 film Starship Troopers, in which he played Zander Barcalow, Rico’s rival who is romantically interested in Denise Richards’ character, Carmen. His most recent acting role, in fact, came opposite his Starship Troopers costar Denise Richards in crime thriller Dirty Hands, which will be released soon.

Muldoon was also an avid producer. He had his own label, Storyboard Productions, where he worked on many films, including The Card Counter, The Dreadful, Marlowe, and Riff Raff. He posted about his current producing project on Instagram just days before his passing.

“So excited to be a part of this amazing project KOCKROACH directed by Matt Ross starring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Edgerton, Zazzie Beetz And Alec Baldwin,” he shared alongside a screenshot of Deadline’s announcement that Hemsworth was joining the film’s cast on April 18.
