Spider-Man Producer Hopes Tom Holland Sticks Around in His Role 'Forever'

Veteran Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal has said she hopes Tom Holland will play the role “forever” — despite the actor having already discussed handing over the part to a younger star.

Holland is of course set to appear in this month’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and has privately suggested he will return for at least one more sequel. Publicly, however, Holland has been vocal about wanting to eventually hand over the Spider-Man mantle, and even suggested actors to take on the role in future.

Sony seems keen to keep Holland around — possibly with an eye on the fact that Brand New Day looks set to become enormously successful, with the movie’s trailer setting a new watch record that not even Avengers: Doomsday could beat.

Asked about the possibility of Holland hanging up his Spidey mask at some point in the future, and whether Brand New Day was intended as part of a trilogy or its own standalone thing, Pascal made it clear she’d like to see the actor continue for a long while yet.

“I think each movie has to be its own thing, no matter what,” Pascal told Collider. “From the very beginning, Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios boss] and I have been working together on these movies, we realized this morning, for 27 years, and every time we set out to tell another saga in Peter Parker’s life, it has to be able to stand on its own completely. Having said that, we hope Tom’s going to be our Spider-Man forever.”

Holland first appeared as Spider-Man when he was aged just 19, back in 2026’s Captain America: Civil War, and has grown up as a regular fixture of the MCU. Now aged 30, nothing has officially been announced about his ongoing involvement beyond Brand New Day, though Sony has suggested this could be the start of a new era for Holland’s character, and there’s a broad expectation among fans that he’ll pop up in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.

But how many more Spider-Man movies will Holland appear in after that? Infamously, the actor stated back in 2021 that if he was “playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.” Reminded of that quote this year, Holland told GQ that he now needed to “maybe… change the quote to 37,” and suggested his remark had been influenced by him “trying to leverage Sony and scare them into thinking I wasn’t going to do Spider-Man 4.”

Still, back in May, Holland said he wanted to help set up a new era for the Spider-Man franchise, shepherding in a fresh Spider-Man or Spider-Woman as his replacement. “For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” Holland said.

Then, last month, Holland again discussed passing the Spider-Man torch to another, younger actor, this time suggesting the star of Netflix drama Adolescence for the iconic role. “Owen Cooper would be awesome,” Holland said of the 16-year-old British actor who played teenage murder suspect Jamie Miller. “Obviously he’s super-talented and the talk of the town right now.”
