The Mandalorian and Grogu Disney+ Release Date Revealed

Disney has revealed a September release date for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu on Disney+ after the movie underperformed in theaters with $345 million worldwide.

The Mickey Mouse company announced the streaming update today, confirming plans to bring its latest spinoff film to the service starting September 2. Although Pedro Pascal and his little green friend didn’t bring in groundbreaking numbers when The Mandalorian and Grogu premiered May 22, 2026, their new streaming home should give it a second chance to click with audiences.

Of course, there would be no movie without the Disney+ show it’s based on. The Mandalorian helped kickstart Disney’s service when it launched all the way back in 2019, and while the Baby Yoda phenomenon helped it land three seasons of TV, that success didn’t carry over to the movie.

The Mandalorian and Grogu seemed due for soft returns when it debuted with one of the worst opening weekends for a Star Wars movie, with $165 million globally. With a reported budget of $165 million, it’s hard to call it a failure, but the weeks that followed still showed viewers weren’t too interested in finding their way to theaters for Pascal’s Din Djarin. Its second weekend alone saw it slammed with a 69% drop.

The Mandalorian and Grogu ended its box office run with $345 million globally (via Box Office Mojo). It followed its time in theaters with a streaming release date in July, and now, it’ll finally be available alongside its TV show counterparts on Disney+.

Disney said The Mandalorian and Grogu – as well as last month’s live-action Moana remake – “underperformed” at the box office when going over its financial results recently. Although the Star Wars movie didn’t make as much as it was expecting in raw ticket sales, the company said merchandise sales helped make up for the disappointment.

IGN called The Mandalorian and Grogu “Mediocre” in our 5/10 review. We said at the time, “If you’re looking for a Star Wars movie that thrills, surprises, challenges, or demonstrates a vested interest in seeing its characters grow and change… The Mandalorian and Grogu is not the way.”

You can see how The Mandalorian movie compares to the rest of the Star Wars catalog when it comes to Disney+ in just a few weeks. Until then, you can read about one scene featuring Jeremy Allen White’s Rotta the Hutt that was inspired by an iconic moment from the franchise’s past.
